Happy New Year, Let's have a Weigh In!
Well, Hello 2020!
As promised, I am back with a new weigh in. So I'll just put that here:
January 1, 2020 : 267.0 lbs
So total weight lost for 2019 was 26 pounds. And wow, what a year it was! I have to admit, I was completely scatterbrained about weight loss. My highest weight scared me. Knowing the scale had settled at 293 wasn't just a wake up call. It was a jump start! But, I feel like I was in such a rush to get that number down, I didn't plan well enough. I didn't set clear goals. I didn't have a clear plan of action. I just jumped in head first. Now, after some research and reflection, I have some new resolutions. What better time than New Year's?
First up: Weigh ins.
Weekly weigh ins on Wednesdays. I'm hoping the alliteration will help to remind me. Weighing in on Sundays had a bad habit of slipping my mind. Even though I consider Sunday to be the beginning of a new week, weighing in wasn't the first thing on my mind. Maybe putting it in the middle of the week will be easier to remember on the to-do list.
Next: Goals
I decided to set small, achievable goals. Some daily, some weekly, and some goals for the month. I know this is common knowledge. The scale can't be your only measurement of success. The tricky part for me was figuring out what's "achievable". With a little help from other weight loss bloggers, and the My Fitness Pal app, my goals for January are as follows:

I decided to set small, achievable goals. Some daily, some weekly, and some goals for the month. I know this is common knowledge. The scale can't be your only measurement of success. The tricky part for me was figuring out what's "achievable". With a little help from other weight loss bloggers, and the My Fitness Pal app, my goals for January are as follows:
- Daily Calorie Limit : <1820
According to My Fitness Pal, my daily caloric goal to lose one pound a week is 1820. Though, they call it a "goal". Which makes it sound like it's a target you're trying to hit. Picture the center of a bullseye. Instead, I'm going to think of it as a "limit". More like the outside ring of the target. The bullseye for me is to come in UNDER 1820.
- Weekly Calorie Limit : <12,740
With a daily limit of 1820, my weekly caloric limit is 12,740. Again, I'd like to be under that. If I can consistently come in under my daily limit, this should be no problem.
- Exercise Goal : Walking 3 times a week
The cold weather has had me under the covers with stiff joints and excruciating pain. I need to get myself moving more. I'm hoping it will help warm me up, alleviate some of the pain, and give a little extra boost to the weight loss.
- Health Goal : Drink 1 bottle of water a day
Over the holidays, I really wasn't paying attention to what I was drinking. One day, as I was going to bed, I felt especially parched. I realized I hadn't had anything to drink all day. Incidentally, I had also forgotten to take my medication that day. Doctors are always advising us to drink more water. But adding 8 glasses of water a day from nothing seems overwhelming. So I'm going to try to work my way up. Starting with one bottle a day with my medication in the morning.
- Mental Health Goal : Complete one crochet project this month
Mental health plays just as large a part in a wellness and weight loss journey as counting calories. Crochet is something I've found that gives me quite at mental health boost. The actual stitch work calms my anxiety. And the end result is a beautiful project that makes me feel accomplished and proud. It also feels great to make things for the people I love. For Christmas, I made my daughter a scarf, and a sweater for our puppy. This month, I want to give myself a goal of one project. Something new I haven't made before.
- January's Weight Loss Goal : - 4 lbs
I'm going for one pound a week. It doesn't sound like much, but for someone like me with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, it's not so easy. Fingers crossed!
This isn't a New Year, New Me kind of thing. I'm still the same person. Hopefully, this is just me, a little less scatterbrained and a little more organized.
I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve!
