The Road So Far...
Fatigue hit hard this week. And I think I know the culprit. (Maybe TMI, so if you're easily offended, stop reading now.)
P.M.S.!
Women, I know you understand. The week before menstruation is the worst! Of all the symptoms we suffer (bloating, cramps, back pain, breakouts, and more...) fatigue seems to hit me the hardest since my battle with Hashimoto's began. When it started, I hadn't yet been diagnosed. And the only way I could describe it was that I couldn't keep my eyes open. It was so much more than that. I felt weak. As if every part of my body weighed an extra 50 pounds, from my eyelids to my pinky toes. My arms ached from exhaustion. My back twinged constantly, as though I'd slept on it wrong every night for a year. Fatigue to this degree only exacerbated the fibromyalgia, of which I still wasn't aware either. It started out gradually, only affecting me the week before menstruation. Eventually, I felt this way all day, every day. After finally getting the results of my tests, and confirming the diagnosis, I was relieved to learn it wasn't just in my head. And once I started treatment, it did get better. Most of the time.
I don't know if it's the change in medication, a change in my cycle, or just a fluke. But this week put me on my booty! I barely had the energy to cook dinner for my family. I'm proud to say I still cooked for them every night. But in order to do so, I had to conserve energy throughout the day. I also consumed more calories during the day in an effort to fuel my energy levels. I managed to stay under my calorie limit every day. But it still added up to more than the last few weeks. So I was not expecting a significant loss.
In dealing with these obstacles, I'm disappointed with myself that I failed to walk 3 times this week. Instead, I only walked twice, for the 20 minute minimum. I did drink 2 bottles of water every day. That goal was achieved. But I feel the walking goal should be higher priority.
I'm going to keep working on it. I know there will be harder weeks. This seemed like one of them. Hopefully, coming up this next week, I'll turn it around for the better.
Until next time, sending you positive thoughts and good juju. ❤
