New plan!

The holiday season. It's a busy time. This year I had plans, and then as it tends to do, life happened. It has been a whirlwind of a week. The whole family felt the loss of our cat. Even our other cat, Loki. He wasn't eating as much. He would look for his brother all day. He would meow all over the house, which for a cat who isn't very vocal was strange behavior. It broke my heart to hear him crying at the door where Daxter typically waited. See, Daxter was an inside/outside cat. Loki is inside only. He would worry if Dax was ever left outside too long. And that's the only time we heard him meow. To let us know Dax was waiting at the door to be let in. He's never been the only cat before. Our daughter was very emotional. Daxter was the best cat to cuddle her. He never minded her hugging him or holding him. Loki is a good boy, but he doesn't much like close cuddles. So we sat down as a family to talk about our options.

I wasn't sure I was ready for another pet. It felt too soon. But as we talked, we started to see the benefits and eventually we were discussing what type of pet would be best. We settled on a small dog. A puppy we could train to live with our cat, and who was small enough so Loki didn't feel threatened. We asked around for advice. We started looking at shelters and rescues. And before I knew it...

there he was.

I can't explain how I knew, but there was something telling me he was the one who was meant for us. My fiance wasn't sure about a teacup pup though, so he asked me to keep looking. Reluctantly, I found a pair of chi-weenies in our town. He said that would make him more comfortable as they were small, but not too small. I contacted the owner, who said they were already spoken for. BUT, she said her mother had a male chorkie who was looking for a good home if we were interested. I knew exactly the pup she meant, and I accepted immediately. I don't believe in coincidence. I spoke to my fiance and explained. He agreed, and that night we picked up our pup. We named him, Jack (after quite a few changes). He has fit right in! Loki wasn't sure what to make of him. He hasn't hissed, growled or even swiped at him. In fact, they played a surprisingly friendly game of chase the next day. Our daughter's shown remarkable responsibility. Caring for him. Picking up after him, without complaint! I'm so impressed with her. Little Jack has brightened our home. I still miss Daxter, terribly. But this little chorkie has reminded me that God has a reason for everything we go through.

So, why am I not posting a weigh in this week? Well, I was so busy with everything else, I never went and got a new scale. And you know something? It was a weight off my shoulders during this difficult time, not to have to wonder about the numbers on that dreaded thing. So, I've decided to take a short break. I'd like to enjoy the rest of this holiday season. Scale-free. Though I still intend to continue my weight loss efforts. The new plan is to come back in the new year, reenergized and ready to rock a new blog! I wish you all a happy holiday, whatever you celebrate. And a happy New Year's Eve! I hope to catch you all up New Year's Day!

Until next year!
